Last Friday (8-17-2012) racers headed out on the “Longest Off Road Race in America”, the Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno race. At 9:20am all the car/truck classes left the line for one of the most epic races of the 2012 season. Garrick Freitas took the overall win in his #1572 Class 1500 car with a time of 9:01:20.
Freitas’ time was only 38 seconds faster than the second place finisher, Robby Gordon, who crossed the finish line at 9:01:58 in his #1537 truggy.
Mark Weyhrich was the first Trick Truck to finish, taking third overall with a time of 9:05:57.
Then we saw Damen Jefferies finish 4th in his #1521 car with an overall time of 9:06:30.
Chuck Hovey in his single-seater Class 1500 car finished 5th overall with a time of 9:07:11.
Rick D Johnson took home 6th overall and 2nd in Trick Truck with his time of 9:08:32
Jason Voss just 4 minutes behind took 7th overall and 3rd in his class with a time of 9:12:19.
The #6 Corona sponsored truck driven by Steve Sourapas and Rob MacCachren finished 8th overall with a time of 9:13:22.
Finishing with a time of 9:14:16 was Tim Herbst in the #19 Trick Truck.
Rounding out the top 10 was Corey Keysar with a time of 9:15:07
I can’t imagine what all the racers and their support teams had to endure during this 500+ mile race course. Temperatures were the hundreds, and the course was dusty from little rain fall which can almost bring you to a complete stop. The Bluewater Desert Challenge is the next race of the Best in the Desert series. This 2-day race is epic, great course and 2 full days of racing. We will see all of you in Parker.
