The first race in 2012 for the Best in the Desert racing series is the infamous Parker 425. This race runs through the Parker Arizona desert and proves to be one of the toughest off-road races here in the U.S.
Off the line first we saw The Corona Trick Truck owned by Steve Sourapas, only this year the driver was Rob MacCachren. Rob had a commanding lead on the first lap of this 141 mile race course, 15 minutes ahead of the second place racer Robby Gordon. Rob started having problems with the truck and dropped off pace practically giving the lead and the overall win to Gordon.
This year Gordon showed up in a new Geiser built Class 1500 truggy. It seemed to work for him considering he won his class and the overall. Gordon’s overall time was 7:18:50.
Second across the finish line and first in Trick Truck was Troy Herbst in the #49 truck. His overall time was 7:23:01. This gave Troy the win for the Trick Truck class.
Third overall and second in Trick Truck was Mark Weyhrich with a time of 7:26:12.
Fourth place was taken by Ray Griffith in the #1553 buggy with a time of 7:34:12.
Rounding out our top 5 was Juan Carlos Lopez in the #18 Trick Truck. His time was 7:36:35.
The 2012 Parker 425 race was one of the best we have covered. The weather was amazing and the racing was even better.
