Sept. 12 race in Primm, Nev., split into two portions

As limited cars and trucks start at 6 a.m.

    LOS ANGELES—Following extensive negotiations and discussions with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, SCORE International announced today that next month’s 14th Annual SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 desert race will utilize its traditional two-part racing format. Round 4 of the five-race 2009 SCORE Desert Series will be held Sept. 11-13 in Primm, Nev., 45 miles south of Las Vegas at the California border.

     For the eighth consecutive year, the race will be split into two groups with the open wheel, limited truck and VW baja bug classes starting at 6 a.m. The featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division, which has 23 official entries to date, along with the unlimited Class 1 open-wheel desert race cars will start at 1 p.m. One vehicle will start every 30 seconds in the elapsed-time race.

     The main pits and start/finish area for the 69.0-mile loop course will be located behind Buffalo Bills Resort on the North side of the property. The course will run in a counter-clockwise direction this year. The faster classes will run four laps around the course while the limited will be required to run either three or two laps within the seven-hour time limit to become official finishers.

     New this year, the course will actually start, finish and include racing action inside the off-road short-course race track in Primm. Free grandstand seating will be available for spectators at the short-course track.

      “We are extremely grateful for the assistance and cooperation we have received from both the BLM and Fish and Wildlife Service,” said Sal Fish, SCORE CEO/President. “The guidelines and stipulations for use of the public lands for desert races are becoming increasingly stringent and SCORE will continue to work closely with all groups directly involved with the use of the land for our events. Being able to run on the short-course track will help enhance the quality of the spectator viewing area at the start/finish line area as well.”

     SCORE also announced that the start/finish line will be the only required stop on the 69.0-mile course, although visual monitors will be at various locations around the loop.

     All vehicles will be required to utilize the real-time satellite tracking devices provided through International Racing Consultants. Live tracking will be displayed during the race at

     Pre-race festivities on Friday, Sept. 11, for the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300, including tech and contingency and the SCORE Manufacturer’s Midway, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. behind Buffalo Bill’s Resort. The post-race awards celebration will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 13) in the conference center at Terrible’s Primm Valley Resort.

     Ever-improving desert racer Ed Stout, Irvine, Calif., who drives the Stout’s No. 13 Stout Industries Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy-Truck, drew the first start in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division in the computerized drawing for starting positions for the race.

     The 14th Annual SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 will feature 18 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks. This year’s starting grid is expected to reach nearly 125 vehicles.  Late entries will be accepted up until race morning.

     Sitting an impressive third in season points in SCORE Trophy-Truck behind NASCAR regular Robby Gordon (No. 77 Chevy CK1500) and Las Vegas veteran Brian Collins (No. 12 Dodge Ram1500), Stout, 43, has consistently driven the truck built in his own race shop to near the top of the sport’s featured racing division. He started the year with a third place in Laughlin and followed by solid finishes in both San Felipe (eighth place) and Ensenada (13th place).

     A total of 23 SCORE Trophy-Trucks, the marquee SCORE racing division for high-tech, 800-horsepower unlimited production trucks are entered to date.

     Seven of last year’s class winners have entered so far, including six of last year’s top 10 overall finishers.

     Starting after the 23 SCORE Trophy-Trucks in the afternoon portion of the race will be the unlimited Class 1 for open-wheel desert race cars, which has 11 entries to date.  In the first 13 years of the SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300, SCORE Trophy-Trucks have nine Overall race wins while Class 1 has four. SCORE Trophy-Trucks have won six straight overall titles.

     Drawing the first starting spot in Class 1 was the veteran Southern California team of Richard Boyle, Ridgecrest, and Tom Kirkmeyer, Apple Valley, in the No. 101 Chevy-powered Jefferies open-wheel desert race car. The Boyle/Kirkmeyer team is currently tied for eighth place in Class 1 season points.

    The first vehicle to leave the start line in the morning portion of the event will be a Class 10 vehicle driven by Corey Keysar, Colorado Springs, Colo. Keysar drives a Jimco-Honda.

      Among the other early entries is Eric Solorzano, Tijuana, Mexico, who has the most class wins in the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300. Solorzano has won Class 11 in eight of the first 13 years of this race in a VW Sedan. Donald Moss, Sacramento, Calif., is third on the all-time list with six Class 3 wins in a Ford Bronco, including the last five straight years.

     Roger Norman, Reno, Nev./Larry Roeseler, Alpine, Calif., return as the defending overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck winner in the No. 8 Norman Motorsports Ford F-150 and they drew the 19th starting position in the class.

     Behind SCORE Trophy-Truck, the class with the most entries is Class 1-2/1600 with 12 vehicles so far.

     Drawing first start in Class 1-2/1600 was the team of Brian Wilson, 23, of Long Beach, Calif., and Las Vegas’ Sammy Ehrenberg, 44, who will split the driving in the No. 1601 Kreger-VW in Primm. Part of the five vehicle Wilson Motorsports team that will be competing in this year’s SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300, Wilson and Ehrenberg are also the Class 1-2/1600 season point leaders.

     Besides Norman/Roeseler and Moss, the other returning class winners from last year entered to date for this year’s race are: Armin Schwarz, Germany/Martin Christensen, Escondido, Calif. (Class 1, Jimco-BMW), Kevin Carr, San Diego (Class 5, VW Baja Bug), Marcos Nunez/Norberto Rivera, Ensenada, Mexico (Class 5/1600), John Holmes, Olivenhain, Calif. (Class 7SX, Ford Ranger) and Gavin Skilton, Orange, Calif. (Stock Mini, Honda Ridgeline).

     The highly-competitive 2009 SCORE Desert Series has 20 racers separated by just 39 points in the Overall standings after the 15th SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge, 23rd Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 and 41st Tecate SCORE Baja 500 desert races.

     The 2009 SCORE Desert Series also includes the quest for the Toyota Milestone Awards for car and truck racers who complete every required mile of the season.  A total of 22 drivers still remain eligible after the first three races of the season.
